One week after George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the death of teenager Trayvon Martin, people have started to gather for nationwide rallies to press for federal civil rights charges against the former neighborhood watch leader.
Beyonce and Jay Z joined the Florida teenager's mother as she spoke to crowds in Manhattan alongside the Reverend Al Sharpton.
The case has become a flashpoint in separate but converging national debates over self-defense laws, guns, and race relations.

Can you just imagine?Cynthia's murder: court grants two suspects bail, remands driver

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday Wednesday Sept 26th granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu. But  the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.

The suspects granted bail – Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) – were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.

Man Sentenced To Life In Prison Over Cannabis

Justice Bature Gafair of the Federal High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State, has sentenced a cannabis dealer to life imprisonment.

A statement by the Head, Public Affairs, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the judgment, which was delivered during the commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking had generated much interest among stakeholders.

According to the statement, the convict, Mr. Saje Askira, 42, is the first person to get a life sentence for drug trafficking in the state.

Justice Gafair reportedly said the convict had a pending case also in connection with drug trafficking before he was rearrested.

“It is obvious that he has yet to learn any lesson and practically lacks remorse. It will be difficult for him to be of good conduct because while on bail he was caught selling cannabis. There is no enough evidence to prove his innocence. He is therefore found guilty as charged and sentenced to life imprisonment,” Justice Gafair said in his judgment.

While former president Olusegun Obasanjo rants about the corrupt judiciary, there is real-world fall out and consequences due to an overburdened and underperforming legal system.
There’s the heart-wrenching case of Blessing Effiong who is caught up in the legal system, and is currently being held without charge for the past three years. The young girl was originally arrested at the age of 16 for receiving stolen property after a phone she bought for N800 was found to be stolen. The owner called and asked for his phone back, which she agreed to in return for her N800 and was Arrested at the scene of the exchange.
Blessing has been held in jail without charges for three years. Without her being charged, the case cannot be brought to trial where she can be found innocent or guilty of the crime. In Blessing’s case, she was a minor when she was arrested. Shouldn’t she have been sent to the juvenile court? Why was she treated as an adult? And sent to an adult prison?

INJUSTICE-2 Jailed For Stealing Goats

An Upper Area Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced two men, Rufai Musa, 19 and Jamilu Zakari, 20 to nine months imprisonment each, for stealing two goats.
The convicts, all residents of Angwan Rogo area of Jos, were jailed for stealing two goats valued at N18,000 belonging to Hajia Aishatu Jibrin.
The court, however, gave them an option of N6,000 fine each.
