Robbers steal N20m from Ogun State Govt vault

The office of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service was in the early hours of Friday burgled by hoodlums who made away with N20m.
The robbers were said to have broken in through the windows of the Parastatal Building headquarters of the Ogun IRS at about 2am on Friday.
The building is about 100 metres away from the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan and shares office with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The robbers were said to be about five in number.
A source within the IRS, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident and alleged that the burgled vault contained about N20m.
The source wondered why the burglary occurred when the IRS had such a huge amount in its vault.
Also confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi said the police had already arrested the guards who were on duty when the burglary occurred.
Adejobi, an assistant superintendent of police, added that the arrested guards were being interrogated.
The PPRO said, “It is true that some people burgled the IRS office and made away with some amount of money. We have already swung into action. We have with us the guards who were supposed to be on duty that night. We are questioning and investigating them.
“We cannot confirm the amount of cash stolen from the IRS office but by the time the complainant finishes writing his statement, we’ll be able to ascertain the exact amount and deduce some other helpful information.”
