'It's more than just a slit': Fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello on the A-List's favourite beyond-the-thigh dresses

Anthony Vaccarello's slinky slit dress has looked dangerously close to revealing the nether region of every woman who has worn it.
But the Belgian designer, 32, has revealed that the secret to keeping the fabric in place beyond the thigh is its hidden inbuilt bodysuit.
The Paris-based designer told New York magazine that the dress is in fact 'not a slit' but instead 'like a jumpsuit dress'.

He continued: 'It's also like pants... the leg is outside through a hole. It's more than just a simple slit.'

 

The designer, who is proving a favourite among the world's It models, added that people are constantly asking him how the slit remains there.
'That's the big question that everyone asks me,' he said.

He also said that the design only suits women who have similar waif-like figures to his model fans which include Miss Rubik, a Polish model, as well as Karlie Kloss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Daria Werbowy and Victoria's Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna.

He said: 'It is such an honor for me because they have the perfect bodies for this type of dress. If they couldn't wear them, I don't know who could wear it.'
Mr Vaccarello received his big break in the industry when he landed a job as a fur specialist at Fendi in 2006.
The role was made even more special as Karl Lagerfeld had personally employed him at the Italian fashion house right after Mr Vaccarello graduated from Brussels' La Cambre School.
He said of the experience: 'I didn't have to apply for a job, they just called me when I finished, and it was great going to Italy, to Rome, working with Karl [Lagefeld] for two years.'
He admitted he had been in awe of Mr Lagerfeld for many years.
'It was very strange talking to him and working with him, because you just grow [up] thinking about him,' Mr Vaccarello said.
'And then you see him and you're talking to someone very famous, and you just can't think about that and move on. It’s kind of strange, but it's funny at the same time.'
The rising star added that he may return to work for a large fashion house one day in the future - but not any time soon.
'For the moment, I don't think about things like that because I'm more worried about growing my own brand and growing the business,' he said,
'So not tomorrow, but maybe, yes, one day.'
And his business is certainly growing.
He has forged an especially close friendship with Miss Kloss who most recently opened his collection show at Paris Fashion Week in February.
'She’s amazing,' he said. 'We met at dinner. We have a friend in common.
'We just talked and she told me that she wanted to do my show, which was amazing because supermodels never do that for young designers.'
