GLOBACOM Network (Glo) launched its maiden Television reality show to discover and train talented young footballers in West Africa in Accra yesterday.
The TV reality show dubbed ‘Glo Soccer Academy’ has the slogan, ‘Dream Team’ and it is in partnership with England-based premier
league club Manchester United’s Soccer School.
The Glo Soccer Academy will be based in Nigeria and it is solely for boys between the ages of 14 and 17 from Ghana, Benin and Nigeria.
Addressing the gathering, the general manager (GM) in charge of advertising at Glo, Tunde Kaitell, explained that a team of competent technical men will scout for talents for five continuous weeks starting from now.
He said the team would travel to Tamale, Kumasi and Accra in Ghana and also to Cotonou in Benin and five other states in Nigeria to select
five players from each city who will be camped in Nigeria.
He added that a total of 33 players would be sent to the academy and would be pruned to 16 players who will then qualify to form the Dream
Team.
Out of the 16, the ultimate winner will take home a whooping sum of GH¢60,000 while the remaining 15 also carry GH¢10,000 each
including a Globacom sponsorship worth a little over GH¢9,000.
They will also have the opportunity to train with the Manchester United Soccer School and also go on a training tour at the Old Trafford nicknamed ‘Theatre of Dreams.’
The GM also stated that the boys would be trained by renowned football legends including Prince Ogufenyi as the goalkeeper’s trainer.
Anthony Baffoe and Tijani Babangida will also serve as coaches, while Victor Ipkeba also serves as the team manager.
Interested participants were advised to purchase an airtime worth GH¢30 and send their name and date of birth to Glo shortcode 3836 for registration.
Mr. Kaitell advised the youth to make themselves available for the programme since it would serve as a turning point for them to make
their dreams come true.
He also pledged his company’s commitment to the development of the game in the country.
