Treatment at last! Joy of Chinese schoolgirl affected by rare condition that covers her in black fur

The tragic story of a little Liu Jiangli, who suffers from a rare condition leaving her covered in black fur, may get a positive ending after all.

The six-year-old Chinese schoolgirl has been offered treatment by specialists in Shanghai who will attempt to cure her from the condition which saw her born with a coating of coarse black fur on her face and across 60 per cent of her body.

After being abandoned by her parents and growing up bullied by other children she may finally be able to live a normal happy life.

She has undoubtedly had a traumatic start to her life, at just two-years-old her mother left the family home and shortly afterwards her father took her to nursery and never returned for her.

The nursery made newspaper announcements asking for the toddler’s relatives to claim her, and six months later the grandfather of one of her cousins came forward.

Liu Mingying has looked after Liu -  from Guiyang city in southwest China's Guizhou province - ever since.

However, he worries she will always be taunted about her appearance.

Sitting with her is her cousin's grandfather - the man who has been taking care of her as his own since she was abandoned by her parents only two months old

The specialists gather around to examine her condition which currently has no official explanation, hoping to help her

Even lying on a hospital bed the six-year-old schoolgirl cannot stop smiling as she looks forward to her treatment

The youngster has been unable to make friends as other children are either frightened of her or make fun of her.

There is currently no official explanation for Liu’s condition.

However, it is very similar to a syndrome known as Hypertrichosis Universalis, which leaves sufferers covered entirely in body hair and affects just one in a billion people.
