Prince Harry the Pygmy Hippo Dies

Only days after losing famous 39-pound shelter cat Meow, the animal world is saddened by another tragic death. According to The (U.K.) Daily Mail, Prince Harry the pygmy hippo has died.

Born in March at the Cango Wildlife Ranch in South Africa, Prince Harry quickly caught the world's attention with his precious face and heart-warming story. After being rejected by his mother, the extremely rare animal was hand-raised by the ranch's staff.

Everything seemed to be going well for the tiny hippo who had previously survived against the odds, until he underwent surgery for a hernia. Towards the end of the operation, Prince Harry went into respiratory arrest and then heart failure. Doctors attempted to resuscitate Harry, but the beloved animal died on the operating table.The wildlife park is devastated by the loss, especially Prince Harry's primary caretaker, Toni Inggs. Harry was a beacon of hope for the ranch that was trying to boost the population of the critically endangered species. Prince Harry will be missed by those who took care of him and by the countless fans all over the world who fell in love with him during his brief life.
