Cross River State government has unveiled plans to introduce the teaching of Chinese language in its public schools.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Offiong E Offiong made the disclosure to newsmen shortly after making his presentation at the ongoing state retreat at Obudu Ranch Resort. He assured that the move is borne out of desire to reposition the state to tap into the phenomenal socio-economic revolution in China.

“In the next 10 years, China will emerge as a world superpower given its population indices and leading role in Information and Communication Technology revolution, amongst other very critical fields of human endeavour,” he predicted. “It will only be proper to take this proactive step to key into the emerging force to remain relevant.”
As a deliberate effort, the commissioner further disclosed that the state government has already written to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria for possible collaboration to execute a trainers’ programme with the establishment of a Chinese Language Centre in Calabar.
