Plenty of moviegoers assembled this weekend to see The Avengers. And as the spandex-wearing heroes conquered the bad guys, the film conquered some major box office records.

The Marvel superhero film, featuring Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), among others, grossed $200.3 million, the largest opening-weekend haul of all time, Box Office Mojo reports. The previous record holder was the final Harry Potter film ($169.2 million), which still holds the record for the biggest opening day. The Avengers also broke records for the highest grossing Saturday ($69.7 million) and Sunday ($50.1 million) and was the fastest movie to reach $100 million, $150 million and $200 million.
Think Like a Man holds steady at No. 1 in weekend box office
The top film for the last two weeks, Think Like a Man, came in a very distant second with $8 million. The Hunger Games took the No. 3 spot with $5.7 million.
In fourth place, The Lucky One grabbed $5.5 million. Pirates! Band of Misfits was hot on the heels of the Nicholas Sparks romance, snatching $5.4 million.
The Five-Year Engagement fell out of the top 5 to No. 6, with $5.1 million. The Raven took seventh place with $2.5 million.
Rounding out the top 10: Safe (No. 8, $2.4 million), Chimpanzee (No. 9, $2.3 million) and The Three Stooges (No. 10, $1.8 million).
