Amidst joy, former Governor of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu celebrated his 60th birthday Tuesday with physically challenged children of Modupe Cole Memorial Home, Yaba and Betheseldar Home for the Blind.
The event was put together by Conference of Local Government Chairmen of Lagos State, which donated a bus and assorted items, such as cartons of cornflakes, milk custard, cartons of morning fresh soap, cartons of St Louis sugar, cartons of Hollandia milk, cartons of Indomie, bags of rice and beans and groundnut oil to the physically challenged children. The items worth over N30 million.
At the event were the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN Chairman, Lagos State, Henry Ajomale and some Local Government chairmen.
Chairman, Conference of Local Government Chairmen, Sulaiman Akeem, said the chairmen were motivated to donate the items on behalf of Tinubu to the less privileged because the conference felt that the best way to celebrate a great icon was not by wining and dining.
“We feel that people who are the creation of God should not be left behind in the celebration. We should let them know that the society has not forgotten them.
“We are truly celebrating a man who has touched lives. He is a man who cares for Nigeria’s democracy. He could have chosen the side of comfort but he did not,” he said.
Akeem said Tinubu showed that he was rugged when he confronted the Federal Government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he withheld the allocation to councils in the state created by Tinubu.
“He is resilient in the enthronement of genuine democracy. Whatever beautiful things Lagos is enjoying now, he laid the foundation,” he stated.
Speaking, Ajomale hailed the council chairmen for donating to the poor to mark Tinubu’s birthday.
Tinubu who also spoke at the event, commended the chairmen for remembering him by donating the items to the physically challenged children.
