The proposed Mountain Top University
has elected to adopt the nomenclature "College" rather than “Faculty”
as practised in contemporary universities abroad as well as the newly
established ones in Nigeria. At full capacity, MTU will have at least
six (6)
Undergraduate Colleges and a Postgraduate School. However, the
University will take off with three Colleges consisting of courses that
are not capital intensive and yet will make the University unique,
innovative and responsive to the needs of the Nigerian society,
especially in relation to industry, technology, food production and
health. The Colleges at take-off (Phase I) are:
- College of Basic and Applied Sciences
- College of Environmental Sciences
- College of Management and Social Sciences
Highlights of courses that are
unique to MTU include degree courses in Insurance and Actuarial
Science, Office Management and Secretarial Studies (including Bilingual
Secretaryship) and the study of Information Technology with Business
Administration, Marketing, Banking and Finance. Others are Landscaping,
Horticulture, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering. MTU plans to
establish relationships with the relevant professional associations for
each course being offered as a means of strengthening the quality of
academic delivery as well as meeting the demands of the labour market.
In every subject, practical work and
applications will be emphasized and made compulsory. The students will
be encouraged to engage in hands-on experience during their training
such that they become entrepreneurially independent at graduation, i.e.
being readily employable either in paid or in self employment.
