2,000 Lagosians Undergo Free Medical Screening

At least 2,000 Lagosians have undergone free medical screening at Abule Egba area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
The free screening is organized by the Overcomers Prayer Assembly founded by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, Dr. Sam Ogedengbe in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
Various ailments like HIV/AIDs, bad eyesight, diabetes, hypertension, breast cancer and other diseases were screened.

According to Ogedengbe, the rationale behind the free medical services was in consonance with the Biblical injunctions that a healthy mind is a happy mind.
He pointed out that it was only when the society is healthy that the church could be firmly established and that the congregation would be at ease to pray fervently and conscientiously.
The cleric maintained that the free medical programme had become an annual event, especially during the annual celebration of the church’s anniversary which, according to him would enable members ascertain their health status and keep them in safe condition before, during and after the celebration.
Pastor Obie Emodi, of God`s Compassionate Ministry, Ago~Okota, Lagos, explained that the step taken by the Overcomers’ Church was one in the right direction.
“This is a good step which, if generally imbibed by all and sundry, would assist in checking sudden death of our people.
“I can assure you that free medical service would afford all people battling with one ailment or another to earnestly rise up and seek the required solution whenever diagnosed to have any ailment especially without paying a dime,“ she said.
The National Treasurer of the Church, Rachael Aribidesi, explained that the idea of the free medical treatment was an avenue by the church to touch the lives of people, especially those that could not afford exorbitant bill for medical treatment in private hospitals.
She appealed to residents of Lagos State to utilise the opportunity and check themselves medically and said that no matter one’s religion, the treatment was open to everybody.
