The 2012 edition of the
Bankole Olumide Aluko football competition, known as the Lawyers League,
has been scheduled to start on Sunday at the Astroturf 2000 in Ikoyi,
Lagos.
The draw ceremony for the
league will hold on Thursday at the same venue by 5pm where 18 law firms
will be drawn to clash in a round robin format in two groups over seven
weeks.
This year’s edition will
celebrate the 10th year anniversary of late Aluko, who was a partner in
the law firm of Aluko & Oyebode Solicitors.
He was reputed as a fine gentleman and obsessively passionate about football.
His law firm instituted the
tournament in his memory as a way to promote team spirit and
camaraderie amongst law firms in Nigeria.
Olisa Agbakoba &
Associates won last year’s edition while Banwo & Ighodalo were the
first runners-up ahead of Punuka Attorneys.
